Dana Point Skin Doctor

Once our Dana Point medical dermatologist has examined your skin, and you have been reassured that your lesions are benign, we can then provide you with options for removal. We know that most lesions can be bothersome and unsightly, such as some moles, skin tags, seborrheic keratosis, sun spots and others. At Advanced Dermatology, Inc., we know that cosmetic removal of these lesions is generally not covered by insurance, but most of our patients are surprised to learn how affordable these procedures can be.

If a mole is suspicious to our Dana Point medical dermatologist, your insurance will usually cover a biopsy of this lesion. Many of our patients choose to have moles removed simply because they consider them unattractive. Depending on factors such as the type and location of the mole, our doctor will discuss appropriate options for removal. Some require stitches while others may not and any scarring is generally minimal and usually blends into the surrounding skin. Proper care of the surgical site will always help to improve the final appearance of the scar. Skin tags are little extra pieces of skin that tend to develop in areas of friction such as under your arms, around your neck, under a woman’s breasts, or in the folds of your legs. These skin tags can become somewhat bothersome, as they tend to rub on clothing and catch on jewelry. Usually, no anesthesia is needed for removal of smaller tags, but larger ones may be numbed prior to their removal. In most cases, all skin tags can be removed in one session, and many patients are seen every few years to have any new tags removed as they develop.

Seborrheic keratoses are inherited wart-like like growths that tend to increase in number with age. They may appear anywhere on your body including the arms, trunk, face and scalp. The appearance of these growths can be quite varied, as they may appear white, brown, pink, or gray. Some are warty while others can be smooth and shiny. There are various methods our Dana Point medical dermatologist uses to remove seborrheic keratosis, depending on type, size and location. Removal of existing lesions does not necessarily prevent development of new ones, so touch-up sessions may be needed. Appearing as brown patches, sunspots or age spots may appear on your face, hands or arms. Existing lesions can be treated by our Dana Point medical dermatologist with cryosurgery or chemical peeling agents, and various lasers have been used as well. Immediately after treatment the spot will appear more prominent, just before it peels off and fades away.
